BP Global - Crane Work on Difficult Terrain
On an early morning shoot with a 4:30 a.m. call time for a sunrise session at Surfside Beach along the Gulf Coast, we had to work around sandy, uneven terrain. Getting the gear to the site was a challenge on its own. Carts don't roll well on sand, so moving everything into position took some extra effort, and we had to be especially careful during the jib build to keep sand away from sensitive equipment. Fortunately, Blue Ribbon has a beach-ready crane in our fleet of three crane systems, an older model that's well suited to working around sand, salt, and water. We built the jib at two different lengths, 15 feet and 24 feet, to capture the shots required by the Director of Photography. Our jib technician and grip crew were essential to getting the setup in place and adjusting to the conditions.
